Search Engine Land has an official position from Google:
“We recognized there was a need for a Google icon that would better work across multiple applications including web, mobile and client applications. We felt the small ‘g’ had many of the characteristics that best represent our brand: it’s simple, playful, and unique. We will be looking to improve and enhance this icon as we move forward.“

Good Stuff Pachi! While reading google official stance in Search Engine Land I did take notice of the writer Danny Sullivan tone regarding the new Fav Icon in his post "Googles New Icon: it sucks & now you can submit your own" He thinks it sucks like we do. The post goes on to say how Google is accepting ideas and new designs to see if in fact it does select a user generated submission as the new selected Fav Icon. I sure am sending my version into google, why not? It would be cool to have mine seen by billions daily. Let's see yours! Do share.... Oh yah as long as it does not upset folks like the Guardian.co.uk For those not familiar with them they are a major players in the United Kingdom Internet Media. Writer Jack Schofield writes "Google changes it's favicon, works really hard to find something worst" He goes on to claim that "Struggling search engine almost copies Guardian Unlimited style" and I must say, they do have a gripe. What did you think of the guardians fav icon vs. Google? do they really resemble each other? Does Jack Schofield make sense when he points out one of many flaws in Google excuses for the change is: "we wanted to develop a set of icons that would scale better to some new platforms like the iPhone". So trying to look good on a couple of million phones is a good reason for looking terrible on a billion desktops and notebooks? He asks. Who knows if Google was going for more of an abstract look or what not..... all that a side this is still the same. I think the new Google fav icon sucks and would like to see the original return.

Bingo! My drawing / photos shop skills are terrible, but it's sure worth - crawling, walking and running - with the chance at having my fav icon submission to Google be the winner. Do you get the feeling your like a little kid again submitting your doodles to a cereal box company for consideration it may end up becoming the box logo?
